Bryan Anderson, a fifth-year industrial engineering student from Coral Springs, Florida, has a passion for solving problems, whether they are academic or practical. This dovetails nicely with his seat on the Student Engineering Leadership Board (SELB).
When Jonathan Yepez was young, he was great at English and history, but math was a different story. All the way up to high school—and almost failing algebra—Yepez struggled with the skill. One day it hit him that he was struggling because he hadn’t mastered the basics in elementary school.
Now a fourth-year industrial engineering student at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, Yepez prides himself to be a “math, history, English” guy. He’s determined to pass that “ah-ha” moment on to the next generation.
Each weekday, FAMU-FSU College of Engineering undergraduates Herbert Lopez, Ana De Leon, Paola Chavez and Austin Rodriguez collaborate at the Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) research facility to create a novel medium voltage cable that aims to have reduced reactive power than the ones currently used throughout the continental U.S. If they are successful, the cable could pave the way for improved power transmission efficiency on electric grids across the nation.

Eight freshmen engineering students from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering won third place in the Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering (AMIE) Design Challenge. This is why Dial-A-Ride is vital to many older adults and why my research team created a prototype mobile app for Dial-A-Ride users.

Engineering Senior Design Day 2021 was a virtual showcase of the engineering skills and talent in FAMU-FSU Engineering’s senior class.
