More than a dozen of our FAMU-FSU College of Engineering faculty members have active labs at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. Using the world’s most powerful magnet technology, they study everything from human neurobiology to complex fluid mechanics. Yavuz Oz, a post-doctoral researcher at the Florida State University-headquartered National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) took first place for the best paper published in Superconductor Science and Technology (SUST) by a young researcher. The Jan Evetts SUST Award was presented to Oz at the 2022 Applied Superconductivity Conference, held this Fall. 

LaBreesha Batey saw her mother’s struggles with neuropathy, a debilitating disorder that affects the nerves. The NASA researcher watched her mother push through every obstacle to successfully raise three children, while bravely battling the disease. Now Batey has a chance to help alleviate the problem that affects more than 20 million people in the U.S.
